How do you sell your sod?
By the pallet or by the roll. Pallets are the most common and most versatile. Rolls are ideal for large, open areas and require either a tractor or special equipment to move and install. If you think you have a job that you would like to use rolls on, please call for more information.
How much area does a pallet of sod cover?
Each pallet will cover 450 square feet, which is equal to 50 square yards. See our "How to Measure & Installation Tips" page to find out how to figure how much sod you will need to cover your area.
How big is each piece of sod?
Each individual piece is about 16" x 24". There are 171 pieces on each pallet.
How much does a pallet of sod weigh? How big is the pallet?
Depending on water content, each pallet of sod weighs approximately 2000 - 2500 lbs. (1 to 1½ tons). The dimensions of the pallet are about 4' x 4'.
Can I haul one pallet in the back of my pick-up?
We recommend a ¾-ton pick-up or bigger to put a pallet of grass in the back. For trailers, we recommend one pallet per axle for a regular utility trailer. (Example: I have a ¾-ton pick-up truck and a 16' utility trailer with dual axles. I can haul one pallet in the back of my truck and two on my trailer.)
What kind of grass do you have?
We grow three different varieties that are well-suited for our climate. Our Certified Tif 419 Bermuda is a hybrid dwarf Bermuda grass developed for use on golf courses and sports fields. The Certified Crowne Zoysia is exclusive to Fulton Grass Co. in the states of Arkansas and Louisiana. It was developed at Texas A&M in connection with the United States Golf Association. Centipede is a common variety started in Alabama for our climate region. See the "Sod Varieties" page for more information.
Which grass is good in shade? Which one does well in full sun?
All three-grass varieties we grow do well in full sun; shade will be the limiting factor. Bermuda requires full-sun conditions. Centipede can tolerate a little shade in the morning hours, and then needs full to mostly sunny for the rest of the day. Crowne Zoysia is excellent in both full-sun and mostly shady environments. The Crowne Zoysia is the most versatile when it comes to sun and shade. See the "Sod Varieties" page for more information.
When is the best time to sod my yard?
One of the best things about solid sodding is that it can be done year round. You don't have to wait for just the right ground temperature or for threat of frost or freeze to pass. You also don't have to rush your job to get the yard done before winter. Sod can be installed even in its dormant state to help with erosion control and in keeping your carpets and floors clean.
How do I prepare the soil for sod?

How do I fertilize my new lawn?
You do not want to fertilize at all until the grass has fully established in your yard and set down roots. After the grass is rooted, we have care and maintenance recommendations available in our office for each variety of sod.
How much water does my new sod need?
When should I start mowing my new lawn?
Wait until the grass is fully established and rooted before the first mowing. This usually takes about 2-3 weeks.
Do I need to call ahead to order sod?
Yes. We want you to have the freshest sod available, so we do cut-to-order. We will need to know how much you need and when you would like to pick it up.
